Response to some criticism

Hi everyone! I wrote a post a few weeks back about women “respecting themselves” and I didn’t notice until recently that it had a negative comment. Click HERE to read that post. Now, everyone’s entitled to his or her own opinion, but I want to stand by what I said and remain accountable to you guys. I thought if one person is writing it, then others are definitely thinking it, so I just want to address the other side of this argument as it was proposed to me, as well as how I’m sure others are thinking about it. Of course, I don’t want to directly attack anyone, so I’m choosing to respond in a general manner to address the issue, should anyone else feel the way the commenter did. Like I said, I am honest, I will always stand by what I say and I think it’s important to remain accountable and that’s why I’m choosing to address this at all.

First of all, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion. I’m not trying to push my beliefs on anyone. When I write my rants, I’m doing just that, ranting. So I’m often heated and passionate about the topic at hand. I never mean to offend anyone and I’m sorry if I do because that is honestly not my intention. I’m not trying to force anyone into believing anything. As I always state, these are simply my views and this is the way I express myself. This is my opinion. That’s it.

RANT: I got pissed off again..this time about coachella fashion!

Okay that's it, I have to say something. A lot of people are going on and on about the cultural appropriation that's been happening at all of these musical festivals by people like Vanessa Hudgens, and even in their videos by people like Selena Gomez. So here's my two cents. Or more like 20.

I never saw the need to comment before, because well, it did piss me off, but I figure, these celebrities are so ignorant, it won't make a difference. I also thought, what if they really know about these cultures, or really are exploring them to learn more? (I often thought this when I would see people walking around with Lord Ganesha shirts, Aum signs, or people reblogging the crap out of things related to my religion [and others] on tumblr and other social media sites).

I started to draw the line when I saw Heidi Klum dress up as a Hindu Goddess (Kali) and a model that I followed on instagram, put up a picture of it, as if it were an inspiration for other cool halloween costumes. It was clear in her other posts that she enjoyed yoga, meditation etc, that's all well and good. BUT HOW IN THE HELL CAN YOU SUPPORT SOMEONE WEARING SOMEONE ELSE'S GOD AS A HALLOWEEN COSTUME?! Needless to say I commented, and after explaining that I wasn't hating on her (the model), just the cultural appropriation executed by Heidi Klum, I unfollowed. It was just too much negativity.

Skincare | Garnier Products Review

Hey guys! A couple months ago I was fortunate enough to work a Garnier Skincare event for the launch of their new product, the Ultralift Transformer. It was a really cool PR event, and I’m really happy I got to be a part of it.

Rest In Peace: Karyn Washington

I'm sitting here in tears. I don't even know how I'm going to go about writing this so I'm just going to write it.

Karyn Washington was the creator of forbrowngirls.comWe knew each other on a very minimal level. She messaged me once years ago after finding my blog, because she said that she was happy to find a confident coloured girl who was a model, and was interested in interviewing me for her blog to help send a positive message to other women of colour.

Web Wednesday | Lion King Cast Sings on Plane

Helllllllllo everyone and happy Wednesday!

I came across this video of the members of the Australian Lion King cast singing the "Circle of Life" on their flight to Sydney. Needless to say, I wish I was on that flight! They are amazing, I really need to see the broadway show as I'm sure it would be even more spectacular :)

Tech Tuesday - Focus: Life Gear by Trident

Hey everyone! I wanted to share with you all the awesome opportunity I got to be a Brand Ambassador for Trident's Focus: Life Gear project.

Now you may be thinking, that's kind of random - Trident putting on a fashion exhibit? And well the truth is, it is. How do chewing gum and clothing relate? in this day and age, people are getting s creative and companies are realizing that they need to do more innovative things since everyone has the same promotional capabilities through the internet.
